Pat Gibson
Pat Gibson is a 64-year-old retired elementary school teacher from Washington, D.C. she worked 12 years for the Department of Agriculture as a Registration Technician. She has two children, Kim and Camille. When her second child was born, she resigned from the government to raise her children. After 6 weeks, she started her home daycare/nursery center and kept an average of 12 preschool children for 12 years. When Camille graduated from elementary school and Kim was in her second year of college, I decided to embark on a new career. I attended the University of D.C. to major in Elementary Education. After receiving my degree in education, I taught first grade for 14 years in the D.C. Public School system before retiring in 2006. After retiring, my husband of 40 years and I moved to Charlotte, N. C. to be near our grandchildren. My husband was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in June 2007 and passed away in December 2007. My daughter prepared his funeral program and received so many compliments on it that we decided to form a company called Elegant Memorials and Keepsakes. We offer over 60 different funeral program templates, prayer cards, thank you cards, and a variety of keepsakes. Our products can be obtained from our website. We also have memorial resource information including how to write an obituary, scriptures, poems, etc. to help our customers create the perfect funeral or memorial service. I have two grandsons, Kendall, 11 and Kameron, 3. Kameron was diagnosed with Autism when he was 2 years old. After many unsuccessful attempts to get quality early intervention education and care for Kameron, my daughter decided to home school him. She hired professional therapists using ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) techniques. I read many books on autism and have trained in ABA so I assist in Kameron’s therapy. Working with my grandson and writing articles about my loss, grief, and death has helped me tremendously to get through the grieving process.
